The Dress Up

Infographic | 9 Tips To Care For Your Dress

Giving a dress the proper care it needs will extend the life of the garment and make sure it looks brand new every single wear.

Before wearing

Spray before - Before wearing, apply perfumes, hair spray and any other beauty items so you do not get particles on the fabric.

Quality hangers - Using a good quality hanger for hung up clothes (e.g. thick wooden hanger as opposed to a thin wine) will preserve the shape of the garment.

Let it breathe - Leave ample space in-between clothes when hung up to allow the fabric to breathe.

Roll if heavy - If very heavy garments cannot be hung up, then roll and store since folding will leave creases that can be hard to get out. Very heavy garments should be rolled and stored since the weight of the hanging garment can alter the shape.

After wearing

Read the label - If the label says dry clean only, then don’t risk it by machine washing and hoping for the best!

Care after wear - Wash the dress directly after wearing it, not before you next decide to wear it.

Steam it - Use a steam iron over a standard iron – leave 5-10cm between the iron and the garment on a low-medium heat to make sure you do not damage the fabric.

Don't sunbathe it - Avoid exposure to direct sunlight as this can discolour the garment.

Store cool & dry - Avoid places that experience temperature changes such as attics and basements! These places are also prone to damp.
